Taking the Good News relevantly to every young person in Swindon

Schoolswork

Our aim in schools is to be a support to teachers, pupils and support staff alike, trying to serve them in different ways. We believe that within this we are being the ‘good news’, whether this is through helping someone to spell, encouraging someone to use their gifts and abilities or actually sharing our faith and giving young people the opportunity to explore what we believe and respond to it.

“We may not be good at saying this but we want you to know we really appreciate all the work you do in our school” – Deputy Head of local School

“The lunchtime club is great! My Tuesdays used to be boring but now they aren’t, it keeps me out of trouble. LOADS OF FUN!” – Student

“An excellent lesson with some brilliant resources!” – OFSTED 2003

Assemblies

An opportunity to establish a link with pupils and teachers, to make them laugh, and to communicate one truth, whether Christian or moral.

Lessons

We take lessons covering topics which include looking at main Christian beliefs or events, how Christianity affects our lives in terms of values, morals, lifestyle, relationships with other people, and how we view ourselves. We are able deliver the ExploRE course, PSHE lessons or design custom lessons to meet the needs of your curriculum. Alternatively we love coming in to give students the opportunity to meet and question a ‘real life Christian’, exploring our views on the topics they have been studying.

Support Work

This includes providing extra support for pupils who may be disadvantaged or have specific learning needs – getting alongside them, encouraging and caring for them and demonstrating that there is a God who cares whilst serving the school. Through our BIOS Pastoral Care Project we are also able to offer groupwork or one to one mentoring sessions, working with those students who are struggling to engage with school or are at risk of exclusion. Please visit www.settings4life.org.uk for more information or to explore how BIOS can work in your school.

Lunchtime Clubs

Each week we run or support 8 lunchtime clubs in secondary schools meeting over 120 young people week in, week out. Lunchclubs are a mixture of fun, games and activities examining life and faith issues.

Rock Solid After School Clubs

Currently we run 1 Rock Solid club after school every Thursday in Nova Hreod School. Rock Solid clubs are a mix of fun, games, activities and discussions on  wide diverse range of topics which engage students in exploring their own beliefs and what the Christian faith has to say about issues today. If you would be interested in having a Rock Solid club run as part of your schools extended schools service or run as part of your churches youth work programme then please contact us.

Detached Youth Work

This work involves spending time with groups of young people where they are and getting to know them, offering them someone who will listen to and support them.. Our aim is that through our friendships they would grasp something of how God sees them – as precious to Him. We run detached youth work sessions both in school playgrounds at lunchtimes and in local communities.

Projects

We also have access to various specialist projects that can be tailored to meet the needs of your school. Recently we have taken a Pana-Football cage into schools to enable us to deliver dynamic and engaging PE/PSHE lessons. We have also brought local bands into schools to take assemblies and work with music departments. We have also been a part of the Bishop of Swindon’s Easter Art Project which saw schools from across the town create pieces of BIG art which were displayed in public locations around the town.
If you have an idea or would like to discuss any possibilities then please contact us.

Opportunities

If you would like to discuss any of the opportunities and how we can further support your school then please do not hesitate to contact us.
