Taking the Good News relevantly to every young person in Swindon

Church Resources

For more information or advice about any of these resources or to purchase any of the materials please contact the SYFC office.

ROCK SOLID

The majority of 11-14 year-olds have never heard the good news of Jesus in a way that is relevant to them. Rock Solid exists to share the gospel through friendships, fun and interactive activities, always including a challenge to respond.

ROCK SOLID 2

RS2 is similar in style to Rock Solid but for 11-14 year olds who: were brought up to go to church, have recently become Christians, are showing a serious interest in Christianity or are wanting to know how to follow Christ at their age and in their world

Each RS2 meeting includes ice-breakers to start, interactive challenges, creative Bible Studies, lively discussion with the occasional competition thrown in. Each session ends by encouraging the young people to reflect upon what God might be saying to them or about the issues discussed and praying together in creative ways.

METTLE

Mettle is not a ‘quick fix’ course on Christianity. It’s more of an ongoing programme, designed to build Courage, Spirit and Character. Mettle gives essential Christ-like qualities that will help 14-18s make informed choices throughout this rapidly changing and challenging time of their lives.

FREEDOM IN CHRIST

It tackles three of the very biggest issues for Christian young people today, who, if they get hold of the freedom Jesus brings can reach their potential to transform the world in His name. It tells young people who they are, tackling the massive issue of identity. In a world that tells young people that they have to look and act a certain way to be loved, it connects young people to God’s mind-blowing truth that they are his masterpiece and he loves them as his children.

Secondly it gives them the tools to get free of the stuff that holds them back. In a world full of temptations and pressures, the material teaches young people how to turn their back on the rubbish and be set free by God’s truth. Thirdly it encourages young people to take responsibility for their relationship with Jesus; that they, as children of God have just as much access to him as their youth worker, church leader or Christian celebrity.

YOUTH ALPHA

If you are looking to bridge the gap between unchurched young people and The Gospel or want some basic studies for your own church’s young people, then Youth Alpha is great.

Looking at themes like Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How do i read the Bible? it gives young people a great foundation in their faith. SYfC can provide materials and training as well as leading odd sessions and weekends away should you want to invite us along.
Luella Dodgson, our Lead Youth and Schools Worker is a Youth Alpha Advisor for the area. Youth Alpha advisors are people who are here to help you! Whether you’re thinking about starting up a Youth Alpha course; in the process of planning for your course; or even half way through your course – Youth Alpha Advisers are ready to answer any questions that you may have; they’re also really great people for you to bounce ideas off and might be able to help provide some training for your Youth Alpha team. If you are interested in running an alpha course, but don’t know where to start, or would like to chat about the course, please contact luella@syfc.org.uk

ART OF CONNECTING

The Art of Connecting aims to encourage young people to examine their own story and journey with Jesus, to connect genuinely with their friends and their ‘stories,’ and throughout – to go deeper in their knowledge of God’s story.

Based around exploring ‘My Story’, Their Story’, and ‘God’s Story’ this will encourage young Christians to adopt ‘connecting’ effectively with others into their daily lifestyle.

UNCUT

UNCUT is a thought-provoking six session course produced by Reflex to engage young people who are seen as marginalised or at risk of offending. UNCUT is designed to help introduce young people aged 15-21yrs to the Christian faith in a way that is real, relevant, natural and non-threatening.

The course follows ‘the art of connecting’ 3-story model – Your Story, My Story, God’s Story.

Your Story: Sessions 1 and 2 explore issues relating to the young person’s identity and above all gives an opportunity for them to share a bit about who they are, the choices they have made and the hopes that they have.

My Story: Sessions 3 and 4 look at the impact that God makes on people’s lives when they encounter Him.

God’s Story: Sessions 5 and 6 look at the life of Jesus, what He said, what He did, why He died, and what our response should be.

UNCUT provides some essential thoughts and questions that young people sometimes see as irrelevant, in a way that they can understand and relate to.

If you work with young people in your community that you find are difficult to engage with church and faith, then UNCUT is a great way to ‘bridge the gap’ between hanging out with them and introducing them to the gospel message.
